The Birmingham Ecoplex is a concept for a "fourth generation" zoo/conservation park on over 300 acres of undeveloped prime property.  It is designed to provide the space and topographic opportunity to develop an interactive sequence of habitats, where animals roam from habitat to habitat as part of a daily rotation sequence.

The Ecoplex was supported by major corporate and municipal leaders, looking to improve the existing Birmingham Zoo and bring their City to the forefront of Conservation Education/Research.

The park is designed as a series of trails, Ecology (educational), American (natives), African (exotics) and the Safari (transportation systems) as well as a major visitor "village" and Service zone.  Future phase included additional zones for the South American Tropical Forest, the Australian Temportate Forest, The Asian Tropical Forest and the Madagascar Island Outpost, as well as additional expansion areas within each trail.
Mr. Lash was in charge of conceptual zoological and site planning, including programming and cost estimating.  Political changes and lack of funding has tabled this project.
